Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22 by more than a billion people worldwide as a day of taking action to change human behaviour and fight for a cleaner, more sustainable future.

People are now more than ever aware of the health and environmental impacts of the products they buy and use. Shoppers are continuing to question the need for chemicals in cleaning solutions. So, it is no surprise that there has been a rise in the demand for green cleaning solutions in recent years.

Green cleaning products only use environmentally friendly ingredients, which means they are free from harmful chemicals, artificial fragrances, and colours.

“Earth Day is a chance for all of us to make a contribution,” explains Lindsay-Jane Vines, President of Thane UK and North America. “The cleaning products we use around the home can be really harmful for the environment, so switching to more natural, eco-friendly cleaning products can bring us one step closer to a more sustainable future.”

To mark the day, the leading TV home shopping retailer has put together 5 reasons why now is the time to switch to eco-cleaning.

Chemicals can cause health issues

Eco-friendly cleaning products will not harm people, because they do not contain dangerous chemicals. Conventional products on the other hand have a mix of toxic chemicals in them, which can be hazardous. Use of non-toxic household products can lead to improvements in family health and the disappearance of symptoms like coughing, sneezing, skin rashes or headaches.

Reducing waste

Buying eco-friendly cleaning products helps to cut down on waste. Many natural cleaning methods are reusable or biodegradable, so this helps to reduce the amount of chemical and plastic waste that heads straight to landfill sites or pollutes our green spaces. According to the UN, less than 10% of plastic globally is recycled, with most ending up in landfills.

“It’s time to ditch single-use plastic”, urges Vines. “By switching to products like our H2O family of eco-friendly cleaners, UK households can eliminate a lifetime of single-use plastic cleaning bottles at a stroke and make a real difference to the environment.”

Vines champions products like Thane’s H2O e3 eco-mop, which uses just salt and water to generate an endless supply of multi-purpose cleaner. It was voted Product of the Year in the largest consumer survey of product innovation in both the UK and the US last year.
